Brutal .... that is the only word I can think of for this type of travel. We are over half way done though. We left Denver at 11:15 (MST), had a 6 hour layover in Calgary, loaded on an 8 hour flight to London, and well, they tell me I'm in London right now. According to my passport, I'm Jody Britton ... but I still don't know what time it is. My watch (still set to MST) says 5:16 am. I think it is 11:16 pm in London, but I have no idea. We are here in the airport for about 2 more hours before leaving for Ethiopia. That is a 9 or 10 hour flight, I think. Seems like we keep re-living time we've already lived .... We had all of 4 hours of darkness on our last flight. Very strange. Thus, we had about 3 hours of sleep. Again, brutal.
We made it on our flights w/ 5 bags ... each one at exactly 50 lb's. (Well, one was technically 50.5 , but they let it slide.) The woman told me I was very consistent. :) We met a family from Ethiopia that was heading home. They gave us their phone number to call them while we are in ET. I wonder if we will.
The first leg of the trip, we watched the first of the Lord of The Rings Trilogy. The next 2 are to come ... what else do you do with that amount of time, really?
We got to Calgary where we had lunch and putzed around their tiny little airport. We walked by a massage place. NOVEL idea for an airport. Maybe you've seen that, but I hadn't. Aaron and I both got a 15 min. chair massage. Only, the guy who gave me mine didn't so much massage, as he did just beat the tar out of me. Suprisingly, it did the trick.
Back on the plane where we tried to sleep. Other than Mexico ... this is the first I've ever flown internationally. The planes are big.
Oh, one last thing .... I had feared it would be really difficult for us to part with the kids after all their moaning and groanings and "why can't we come with you?" or "take us with you". Well, there is a benefit to leaving the day after halloween. (2 actually.) 1) The sitters have to deal with the sugar high. And 2) While we were packing up Saturday morning to leave, the kids kept asking for their candy. Aaron told them they could have some once we left. So, no sooner had we snapped a picture and kissed them, that they were off and running for their baskets. I asked Sam for a hug ... he just said, "bye mom" and dove into his loot. I've been replaced. In all honesty, I'm glad we got out with no tears. It would have made me cry.
Love you Provi, Eden & Sam. Hope you had fun at Slime Time. And hope your "tum-tum's" are felling better. We love you!
